Summary

Comcast was founded in 1963 by Ralph Joel Roberts, born in 1920 in New Rochelle, New York, to Russian-Jewish immigrant parents who had arrived in the United States in the early 1900s. After running a men’s-belt business, Roberts bought a small Mississippi cable system in 1963 with two partners. Over the following six decades he and his son Brian Roberts (CEO from 2002) built it into the largest American cable, media, and communications conglomerate, acquiring NBCUniversal in 2011 and Sky in 2018.
