Bank of America was founded in 1904 by Amadeo Giannini, the American-born son of Italian immigrants from Liguria. Originally established as the Bank of Italy in San Francisco, the institution was created to serve working-class and immigrant communities excluded from traditional banking. It grew rapidly, was renamed Bank of America in 1930, and became one of the largest financial institutions in the United States.
